Katsura Funakoshi, 'the Sphinx Sees Wars', 2005

TABLOID GALLERY is going to hold Katsura Funakoshi Exhibiton from June 25, 2013. The exhibition will mainly feature three-dimentional works of the 1990's to 2000's along with drawings on which wooden sculptures are based and printings. 

Katsura Funakoshi, a leading sculptor of Japan has consistently carved fugures in camphor wood with impressive marble eyes. He had made figures wearing daily clothes based on real models since the 1980's, but his style has changed since the first half of the 2000's, which led to a series of 'Sphinx', androgynous nude figures in 2005.
